Istanbul has been the capital to Byzantine Empire and still in this day many archaeological remains are found during the excavations (and construction works). Our first day will be the Hippodrome Square, where was considered the heart of Constantinople and the chariot races were held. We will see the Obelisk and the Serpentine Column. We will then proceed to Underground Cistern which was used as a water supply for the city. Now the Cistern is beautifully restored and presented and offers a magical, mystical atmosphere. We will then visit the masterpiece of Byzantine architecture, Hagia Sophia Museum. Our guide will take us through the history and we will take our time in this magnificent building. After having our lunch in a local restaurant in the region, we will drive through the Old City fortification walls built in 5th century and cross to Eminonu area to visit the Chora Church, where you can see the best examples of mosaics from Byzantine classics. For four centuries after the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul it served as a mosque (Kariye Camii), and is now a museum (Kariye Museum) because of its priceless mosaics.
We will also take our time in this museum, to listen to life cycles of Mother Mary and Jesus Christ.
